Ischemic Strokes

  • occurs due to blood clotting

  • clotting causes blockage of blood flow to the brain

  • Embolic Ischemic- blood clot somewhere in the body

  • Thrombotic Ischemic- one or more blood clots in ateries that supply blood to the brain

Hemorrhagic Strokes
​
  • caused by breakage of a vessel in the brain

  • this "blowout" of a vessel creates a lack of blood flow (oxygen) to the brain

Stroke: when the blood supply to the brain is cut off somehow, and there is a lack of oxygen and nutrients to brain tissue, causing brain cells to die.
